York House and Aldersmore in the seaside town of Holland-on-Sea, Essex, provides specialist residential care for up to 18 adults with learning disabilities, including autistic spectrum disorders, and high care needs.
The home’s light and airy rooms, which have been furnished and decorated to a high standard, provide a welcoming, homely environment.
York House and Aldersmore is fully wheelchair accessible with lift/wheelchair access to all floors. There are 18 bedrooms, most of which have en suite facilities, and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with furniture and other items of their choice.
The home has a number of communal rooms where residents can relax or take part in activities. Other facilities include two kitchens and two laundry rooms with washing machines and tumble dryers and staff accommodation includes the registered manager’s office, two staff rooms and two staff sleep-in rooms.
Many of the rooms within the home, like the kitchens and laundry rooms, are used to help develop residents’ practical independent living skills so that their dependency on support workers is reduced over time.
The large and attractive garden – which includes a small fish pond and hamster and chicken enclosures – is an important part of life at York House and Aldersmore, particularly during the summer months, when residents use it for relaxation, activities and to spend time with their families.
At Eleanor Care Homes, the health and well-being of our residents are key priorities. The York House and Aldersmore team are able to cater for any specialist diets, including vegetarian and diabetic diets, and we provide regular access to a chiropodist. We also support residents with visits to the doctor or dentist, as and when required.
Holland-on-Sea offers residents the benefits of attractive beaches and other traditional seaside attractions, a range of shops, places of worship, eating places, pubs and other social activities.
The home has easy access to public transport and is only ten minutes from the local railway station and has good road links to destinations including nearby Clacton-on-Sea and London.
York House and Aldersmore also has its own wheelchair-accessible minibus, which enables residents to reach destinations not easily accessed by public transport and for day trips and outings.
