Medication (Induction and Administration)

This course addresses the key issues that a care worker should be aware of when dealing with medication.

The training will include an introduction to legislations governing the administration of medicine and will include the following key topics:

  • the classification of medication
  • types of medication
  • how to deal with medication when working with other professionals
  • maintaining medication records
  • the collection, storage and disposal of medication
  • principles of safe handling of medication
  • how to support an individual who prefers to self-medicate
  • how to properly administer medication
  • reporting mistakes and errors
  • identifying and reporting changes about the service user

The course will also use case studies to help trainees put medication issues into a realistic care setting.
